Introductions: Hello I am Taylor Pochron 🙂

All pictures shown are of my plant collection that I’ve been growing over many years. Please enjoy this showcase and its accompanying discussion on plant propagation.

What is Propagation & Why is it important:

  • The awesome reality of plants being Totipotent.
  • Sexual Vs. Asexual Propagation
  • So many plants are grown through simple propagation methods.

Growing mediums

  • Water, Sphagnum moss, Perlite (rocks), Soil…
  • How roots are affected by their growing medium
  • Different species propagate more effectively in different mediums.

Division: A simple way to multiply plants

  • Splitting root balls to quickly make many plants from one.
    • Balancing energy (roots area to foliage size)
  • Common practice for plants that grow in clusters and/or form pups
    • Ferns, bromides, palms, sansevierias, pileas… etc

Cuttings: Large topic of the webinar

  • A portion of a plant is cut and allowed to grow into a new plant
