Kitchen Scrap Gardening

Home | Gardening | Kitchen Scrap Gardening
Does your child want to start their own veggie garden? Growing kitchen scraps is a fun and easy way to do it indoors. All you need are jars, toothpicks, and assorted vegetable scraps.

Supplies:

●     Glass jars (assorted sizes)
●     Toothpicks or small sticks/skewers
●     Assorted food scraps (ie: lettuce base, green onions, celery base, leek base, carrot top)

Use the toothpicks to poke through the side of the plant to act as a stabilizer on the rim of the jar. Add enough water so the base of the plant is just above the water (it will reach for it and grow!). Be sure to change the water daily. Put the jar in a filtered sun window, and watch your garden grow!
