Tips for Hot Weather Plant Care

Home | Advisories | Tips for Hot Weather Plant Care

Be prepared for hot Bay Area weather with these tips:

  • The key to hot weather plant care is to irrigate early in the day, and deeply. Note: some plants like fuchsias and impatiens may wilt in the heat, even though they’ve been watered, but they should recover.
  • Unless absolutely necessary, don’t water in the middle of the day (fast evaporation makes for inefficient watering).
  • Don’t hose plants down in the full sun. This practice can promote fungus spread and sunburn.
  • Remember to check on your houseplants. They need water, too!
