Healthy, sweet, cooling...the taste of late summer. You can eat cantaloupe ceremoniously with ice cream, or as grandma did, with a scoop of cottage cheese and a cherry in the middle. Watermelon, is just delicious any old way, but we're suggesting aqua fresca using watermelon. yum. yum. yum.

Growing Melon
 This succulent tropical fruit can be grown without much planning in warm parts of the Bay Area. In cool areas, it makes sense to plant varieties that are smaller and take less time to mature. Select a spot with full, bright sun. Ideally, melons need hot weather to produce sugar needed for sweet fruit. more...
